Here are the results of the questionnaire I made about music buying preferences and music videos:
The response to this question was good, most people said that they think the main genre associated with a performance based music video is Alternative, which is what our band's genre is.
The majority of people who completed the survey said that they download their music from iTunes or other internet sources... This shows that the internet could be the best way to release the band's album...
This question shows that the genre most associated with a concept based music video is pop. We have not chosen to do a concept based music video so this shows that we are sticking to the genre conventions so the reader can relate more to the media.
The answers to this question show that most people think that the actual music is the most important part of an album but some people do put a high emphasis on the cover of the album. They believe that good album artwork is important. This shows that the digipak should be visually appealing as it does play a part in selling the album.
Most people seem to have answered that they would be persuaded to buy a song or album if they liked the music video. This shows the importance of a good music video. If you make a memorable music video, people are more likely to buy the album.
The answers to this question show that most people would not be put off an album because of a poor music video. This means that even though music videos do play an important part in selling songs and albums, the actual songs are more important for the majority of people.
Most people seem to look up the music video for a song they like that they have heard on the radio. This shows the importance of having a good music video for your song. It gives it a whole new dimension, becoming more than just a song. If it is entertaining, people will want to watch it more and people will be listening to the song more.
The response to this question is very positive. The most popular settings for an Altenrative music video are woods, a barn and field. A woods was our first choice but that plan had to be scrapped so we went for a barn and a field. This shows that we are keeping to the genre conventions for an Alternative band.
This question shows how much people spend per month on downloading or buying music. Mos people spend under £5 per month and one person spends between £16 and £20! I personally download all my music from a free source as I don't want to pay for it.
It is good that you have considered the possible outlet for your video. I like that you have analysed each question.
