Muse - Absolution CD Cover Analysis
This album cover shows a man holding a gas mask, looking up towards the sky. The high-angle shot used makes the viewer feel as if there is something important looming over-head and also gives you a feeling of power and superiority and gives you a sense of sympathy for the man. The man is holding a gas mask and is surrounded by the shadows of people in a 'T' shape, these people could represent the casualties from a war or gas attack. He could be the sole survivor... This could represent the end of the world, a theme which runs throughout the album in the music.
This apocalyptic theme is seen in the music video for Time Is Running Out, the third track on the album. In this video, you see what you assume to be various military leaders at a meeting, they then proceed to dance around the room like puppets as muse play... This could be showing how the military are just like puppets of the government... The lyrics of the song seem to be about the government trying to cover up some sort of secret, which could be the cause of the Earth's demise...
The theme of world destruction is also seen in the video for Sing For Absolution, in which you see a futuristic city that they have to leave in a spaceship, possibly because of the end of the world...
The colours used on the album cover are neutral, so as to give a baron feel to the landscape. The fact that the band name is larger than the title of the album ensures that it is the first thing you read, followed by the album title.

Alan Titchmarsh Video Game Debate
1.a) In the debate on the Alan Titchmarsh Show about violent video games corrupting our children, one of the main points that the anti-gamers came out with was that these games are too easy to get hold of for children. This criticism was knocked back by the editor of CVG with the point that video games do have ratings just like DVDs, and it is in the hands of the parents to ensure that their children are not playing inappropriate games. The arguments against video games were flimsy at best, they didn't really seem to know what they were talking about and most of their points were backed up by pseudoscientific statistics plucked out of thin air.
I believe that violent video games should not be let into the hands of children in the fist place. Parents should take a more active role in the upbringing of their children. Some parents see it as an easy, effort-free way of entertaining the kids, so just sit them in front of an xbox and give them whatever game they ask for. Parents need to research the games they are buying for their children and stick to the ratings - they're there for a reason! I'm sure they wouldn't dream of sitting their 11 year old in front of the TV and popping Saw II in the DVD player to keep them occupied for a couple of hours... but some parents don't realise that video games can be just as violent.
b) The Hypodermic Needle Model can be applied in that the debate suggests that children can be corrupted by playing these games so they are taking a passive stance when reading a text. Also, the Behavioural Learning Model can be applied as it suggests that we learn as children by watching adults and immitating their actions (Bandura et al.)
2. This train of thought can be seen in the past with the James Bulger case. The murderers were thought to have been influenced by the movie Child's Play 3, although it has never been proven that either ever even saw the film.
3. I believe that in the future, they will make it much more difficult for violent video games to be played by children with much more efficient parental controls on the games consoles and give parents more information about the content of the games that are available.

Skills Development
Since I have joined Reepham College, I have used the video cameras multiple times. I learned how to use the auto/manual focus to create the effect I was after. Also, how to use the nightvision setting and how to play back film on the camera.
I have learned how to record digetic sound and how to use final cut in order to edit non-digetic sound in after filming. I also learned how to use different transitions between shots on final cut to create different effects and how to cut clips and rearrange them in different orders. I have used transitions like dissolve, cross-dissolve, fade to black and effects such as black and white and high contrast.
I have also learned how to synchronize music with film in the music video I made during curriculum enhancement week.
I have been using my folder in order to keep all my notes well organised and I have used labels on my blog in order to make it more easily navigatable.
